first comes love

June 2014
last update / next update

Narrated by Dean Smith

Blair and I took her parents out to lunch in April so we could tell them the news. We met for lunch on a Saturday afternoon at Sal's. We arrived 15 minutes early but her parents were already there waiting for us as we entered the restaurant.

Blair decided to break the news right away. She practically blurted out "We're having a baby!" I smiled and nodded along, adding that we are going to get married in the summer. Both of her parents looked relieved once they heard that.

I told my Dad alone, seeing as he rarely likes to leave his house - which has been the same since I was a kid. I admit I was embarrased to bring Blair over there. My Dad still really intimidates me. I was really nervous about telling him. I had second thoughts about not bringing Blair as I stumbled on my words. Once I finally got the courage to spit them out his attitude changed. He confessed that he thought he would never have any grandchildren. Neither me or my brother Adam have ever been that interested in getting married let alone raising a family. Both us of are too involved in our careers to even think about things like that. He insisted on meeting Blair right away. We set up a lunch date for them to meet. Needless to say, I'm glad he took the news well.

Blair went with her Mom and best friend, Trista, to find a wedding gown. They went to a bridal shop downtown. Blair was worried about finding a dress that would "work with" her bump - whatever that means.

Her Mom can be very pushy and opinionated. If she doesn't like something she will let you know. Blair said she showed her Mom a dress inside the shop and her mother scoffed at her saying it just "wouldn't do."

Blair tried on a slew of dresses, chosen by herself, her Mom, Trista and the sales lady. They were at the shop for 4 hours! I'm so glad I'm male and don't have to do any of that.

Blair said after hours of trying, she finally found "the dress." Even her Mom loved it. We are keeping it old fashioned so I won't see her until she comes down the aisle at our wedding. I know whatever she chose, she will look gorgeous.

When I got home that night Blair told me all about her trip and how she asked Trista to be her maid of honor. Trista happily accepted and has been around a lot lately, helping us make decisions and finalize all the details for the wedding.

I came home from work late one night to find Blair lounging on the couch. She looked sad so I asked her what was wrong. She assured me it was nothing and not to worry. I moved into Blair's apartment shortly after we got engaged. I think Blair is sad about leaving the apartment. She worked really hard to be able to buy it but it just isn't practical for three people.

We looked all over Ashland and its surrounding areas before we finally agreed on a house. It's a charming green 3 bedroom house that is just down the block from our old building and still really close to work for the both of us. We are finally in contract and have our closing date set for July.

As I sat on the front steps of our apartment building waiting for the limo to arrive, I could feel myself getting nervous. Time seemed to fly. I can't believe how quick these past few months have gone. Today is our wedding day and I can feel the butterflies swarming around in my stomach. Who knew I'd ever get married? And to such a beautiful woman.

We were married at Stone Tavern Farm in Oakhurst Pointe. After a few words of wisdom from my father, it was time to see my beautiful bride walk down the aisle. I almost fainted when I saw her. She looked so beautiful. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with her and our child.

Gameplay Notes
Dean and Blair's mom keep heart farting over each other. It's very strange! I haven't noticed if it's doing it now that they are married but I hope not.

Most of the people you see here are townies. I edited their names/relationships to give Blair "parents" and Dean a "dad" and "brother." I just felt weird having just the two of them get married alone and figured Blair would be the type to want to include her family in her life events.

  1. Such a cute wedding and loved all the planning details. I'm sure they'll be fine as parents

    1. I think you are right, they will do fine! I think bring older and more established in their careers is also a positive for this couple.

  2. The “Something Borrowed” Bridal Boutique looks amazing! I love the vines and the whole storefront, especially the recessed door under the archway!
The green house that Blair and Dean chose looks like Simone Endeavor’s house in my game —I downloaded it, gutted it, and expanded it, so the inside will probably look different but I’m pretty sure it is the same house. I love the front porch. It will be fun to see it in your game too.

The setting of the wedding was so pretty, it looks like a midsummer’s dream.

Such a nice update and beginning to their life together!

    1. Thank you! I stole the idea from either a similar sim building or real life picture.. Not sure which one at the moment! I think the houses might be the same.. I haven't decorated it yet but it's sort of "boxy" on the inside (lots of small rooms). I'm envisioning them treating this house as a fixer upper since the entire house is covered in wallpaper with old kitchen and bathrooms.

I'm glad you enjoyed the wedding! There we're leaves in the background because the venue is located in the university hood and it was fall there! I think it worked out anyway though!

Thank you for commenting and reading!

  3. Man, so jealous of your community lots right now! That bridal boutique is amazing. I have hardly any community lots to my taste at the moment, so I'm living vicariously through others. ;)

I'm glad Dean's dad took the news better than he was expecting. People can surprise us in good ways sometimes. I'm glad Blair was able to find a dress to please herself and her pushy mother! The wedding was absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to meet the baby!

    1. Thank you! I had so much fun decorating the bridal shop! Nobody currently owns it but I'm thinking that might change, that would be fun to run as a store!

I can't wait to see this baby too! It will be the first in-game born sim in the hood!

Thank you for reading and commenting!

  4. Oh my! I totally love the Bridal Boutique! especially the stand when trying on dresses, totally brilliant! I need one in my bridal shop. Those things are so necessary, since all dresses are made for girls that are 6' tall or something. They had a lovely wedding, I love that his name is Dean Thomas, well discounting his last name. Excited to see their baby, and how fun that it will be your first in-game birth! Those are special, I still remember mine. It's nice that everyone was supportive, and I can see why you'd add family, I have a few townies that I'd like to make parents for, probably will for a few. Just doesn't make sense that everyone's townie parents aren't around.

Their new house is great, looks spacious for their growing family!

    1. Thank you for the compliments on the bridal shop! :)

I'm excited about the first birth and am also trying so hard not to pop in their house early! *must not rush!* I'm trying, really! I promise I won't let her give birth before "November."

I thought these two would have family around so I just made some relationships. I haven't had this hood long enough for any of the families to extend beyond the immediate family but I'm hoping I will get there at some point. For now, I'll just fake it, lol.

Thank you for reading and commenting!

  5. First baby born in game is a huge deal, so exciting!

    1. It is, I can't wait to see him/her. I am in between a few names right now but hopefully I'll be able to narrow it down before the birth!

Thanks for reading and commenting Shannon!
